Lee Enfield No.4 MK1

The wood is not in the best shape

The metal is covered with some cheap oven spray paint, that is flaking off.

Not sure what that screw is for, or what that hole near the chamber is for.

The metal shows signs of wear.

The stock is a different wood than the body, it seems to match the upper handguards, and has some lettering on it.

The rifling looks strange, there are only two valleys, and the twist seems to be very slow. It looks like it has been shot a bit, so I'm not expecting tremendous accuracy from it, but it should make a good project gun.

It's awesome.

Once again; sorry for the bathroom pics, but it has the most light for the best pictures.

The hole near the chamber is for venting gas to the side in the event of a ruptured case/pierced primer.

The screw on the side rail is your ejector. (Case rim strikes the tip of the screw to rotate out from under the extractor.)

And that black paint?

Believe it or not, that is the original metal finish.

The Brits were big on black paint, sometimes even wrinkle finish black... (Sterling SMG, for example)

Thanks for the info!

All I have to say about the wrinkle finish black is an incredulous "Really?"

As an aside; the buttstock has "WL 4/1/53" on it, making me want to call it "The Joker" :)
