A glimpse at a more aggressive GOP

This health care debate has severely damaged the Democrats.

Amazingly enough, this is completely their fault. They've fumbled every ball lobbed their way, they've missed the unchallenged slam dunk, they've missed the fucking tee-ball of health care, just sitting there, unmoving, waiting to be hit out of the park. I'm not saying it's bad. I don't support any form of government subsidized (much less, RUN) health care, but I just can't help but be amazed at the disjointed messages, the petty infighting, and the sheer ineptitude the entire party has displayed during this process.

Which begs the question...

WHAT THE FUCK HAS THE REPUBLICAN PARTY BEEN DOING ALL THESE DECADES?!

We're watching these aloof, dignified, cool democrats losing their shit at these town halls. They're alienating the swing voters, the undecideds, and the independents. And why? Simply because someone is challenging them directly. Because regular people are questioning the reasoning of their representatives.

The result is plain to see for everyone with an internet connection. On video after video, from sea to shining sea.

The revulsion.

The anger.

The sheer incredulity.

You can watch all of these things form on the face of your favorite democrat before they blow up and reveal their true colors.

You can almost hear them thinking;
"How DARE these simple people think THEY know better than I!"

Every time they call someone a Nazi, every time they call someone a shill for the insurance companies, every time they call someone astroturf, every time they question someone's intelligence, every time they open their mouths in anger...

We win a little bit more.

So, the winning strategy against the Democrats is to do some research, and simply question their course of action? To refuse to be brushed off, by raising the bill into the air and saying, "No, Senator, YOU'RE wrong. Read page 26 paragraph 4 of the bill."

This is that unattainable, perfect, winning strategy?

Then what the FUCK have the republicans been doing all these years?!

Those who listen to conservative talk radio know exactly what I'm talking about. Hosts take calls from liberals, the liberals raise claims, the hosts raise facts and ask that they be refuted, the liberal changes the subject, the host nails the coffin shut, and hangs up. THIS ISN'T ROCKET SURGERY!

For years conservatives have been screaming at their radio, "Why don't I hear this from the Republican party?!"

I have no answer.

Only speculation based on the Republican party's repeated actions...

The Republicans want to play nice. They want to be polite. They want to reason with people who think they are horns-on-head evil, because they disagree on policy. They want to maintain the republican/democrat civility that was all but gone in the early 90s. They want to be the bigger person by compromising in the hopes that it will spur future accommodation.

They are fighting a gentleman's war against guerrillas.

If the Republicans been fighting Democrats the same way Democrats have been fighting Republicans, all we would see of Democrats is the flustering, angry messes we see on these town hall videos. The Democrats have been able to shout, "racism," "corporate fat-cats," and "party of the rich" to end any fight before it even began. This has made them soft.

The fact that the Conservative citizens have had to take time out of their lives to take the representation of their ideals and principals into their own hands, is a damning indictment of the supposed strength of the Republican Party.

If the Republican party had been keeping up in the political arms race there wouldn't even BE a democratic party any more. Or at least, we'd have JFK democrats instead of the class of democrats we must suffer today.

We would be arguing over the more liberal conservative candidate, and the more conservative conservative candidate.

Instead, we have this debacle, and the GOP to blame.

The GOP needs to get off their asses, get out there, and fight for our votes!

Otherwise a third party will.

The GOP has "Stockholm Syndrome" and that to me really explains it all.

That's a good way of putting it. Especially after all the Bush hate, which they must have taken as Republican hate. It makes sense that they'd be first at the table with concessions if they thought they were on the outs.

What has the GOP been doing? I dunno, I never was one before I became an Anti-Democrat - but I think Brian's about right. They want the Left to lurv them and give them a puppy - or something. I'm beginning to think (to borrow a phrase from a gun-guy) that Conservatives are to the GOP as Gays are to the Left, a matter of convenience.
